I hiked my way here and rode the bus back into the city. There is some parking also. This is a different style of bathhouse. You enter in what looks more like a small minshuku and get greeted then given a table to sit at and served some tea. At that table you leave your bag and anything you do not need in the bath. The bath here is quite small so you might have to wait to get in. There is no outdoor bath, no sauna, no cold water. It is just a tub filled with some mysterious, unique water. Radioactive baths like this typically attract people who are looking more for health benefits along with relaxation and you will see that here. I recommend going here as long as you know what to expect.

Wonderful, yet small, place that has unparalleled service. There are only a few baths and it feels more like a very fancy daiyokujyo in a business hotel--which makes sense as Fufu no Yu is owned by the operators of the Dormy Inn chain of hotels. The water is above average for a simple hot spring. It's the location that really puts this place on the map. Besides that the extra services really stand out. There's a small snack corner where you can buy cup noodles and cook them in the nearby mini kitchen and then eat them in the large rest area. They even had take out menus for Pizza Hut there. When we left Mia got a free ice cream because it was Sunday and I got a huge bag of snacks with my drink. Outstanding service from start to finish.

ReviewThis is one of the most famous sento out there. It's super popular with foreign tourists. I enjoyed talking to some exchange students while there. Great selection of baths makes the lack of a natural hot spring inconsequential. Expect it to be busy. This is a must go to sento for any enthusiast.

Review: Very popular supersento in central Kyoto city. Busy as there are not many other supersento available in the area, and one of the few with a natural hot spring filled bath. It is trucked in spring water from Hotaru no Yu in Moriyama, Shiga, however. On my visit there years ago I don't remember the water being this good, especially after being trucked in or perhaps it was my feeling on the beautiful afternoon I visited. Either way, the spring was decent and over all the main baths were very relaxing dispute being busy and small. Main bath was around 39.5 (perhaps for summer) complimented by a good selection of jet baths. The cold-water bath is not too cold but extra popular. Try to manage your space. Steam bath was adequate. Amazing that there is no TV in the baths here as typically supersento like this have them. Maybe they want the bathers to get in and out quicker? This place was only opened in a few years ago but it already looks pretty beat up through heavy usage. Not really worth visiting considering the less crowded and cheaper sento nearby. Go to Hotaru for the spring if you want to try it. Review: This supersento is located in the delta where the Katsuragawa and Yodogawa rivers meet. Given the location I was surprised that there was a natural hot spring offer here and not I was surprised to see that the hot spring here is trucked in from Kameoka in Mie. The hot spring only fills a shallow, small, and popular outdoor bath. Overall, the bathing here is quite small. There is a nice selection of various jet and electric baths including a somewhat rare, especially in a supersento, pull-up bar. The carbonated bath was quite weak. There are two dry saunas and a decent cold-water bath. Best thing about this sento is the hand painted mural of the seven lucky gods portrayed as frogs along the front wall. Thankfully, they have a sign showing the different mural on the women’s side as the baths do not change here. It was kind of busy, small and had middling baths so not really worth going out of your way to visit. However, good if you are in the neighborhood or a dry sauna fan. ReviewHinode-Yu was built in 1928. The sento itself is hidden down a footpath a few minutes walk south of Kyoto station. It is an old Japanese wooden building that fits perfectly in Kyoto. Inside the changing room feels more like a quiet temple. The aged wood floors give a bit under your feet. The lockers for your clothing have vintage glass panels in the doors. The baths are done in tile. Pay attention to the floor where each square is made of 4 perfectly aligned smaller tiles. The water here is normal, but the experience is anything but.

The bubble bath in the back corner is constantly overflowing with small, white soap-like bubbles. I went here after along hike and found the cold water bath to be exceedingly refreshing. The locals seem (at least the afternoon I was there) to be big sauna users and the cold water bath got a lot of use that day.

ReviewPlain city water in this clean new looking basic sento, but it was very clear and clean feeling. The outdoor bath has a strong chlorine smell. The outdoor bath is in a nice spot behind the building that would be refreshing in the summer. The sauna's thermometer mounted high on the wall said it was 110ºC in there. I thought it was nice and hot, but not sure if it was that hot. Also the cold water bath is filled from a tap high enough to stand under. Great for getting cooled off after the sauna. This is a brand new sento. The previous building was demolished and the family rebuilt next door. Although recently built the design is traditional where the family lives above the bathhouse area. You can see the house's front door to the left of the sento's entrance. The brand new feeling is interesting, but it's not yet decorated and needs a few plants or something to cheer up the space--the outdoor area in particular. Currently there is not much out there and it feels like the hot tub in a chain hotel in America. Not a bad thing, however strangely nostalgic.Everyone here knew each other. There was a conference of local Oji-sans going on in the changing room when I got out of the bath. The staff was very nice and I enjoyed being there. They also have a great selection of old style sodas that look like they have been around since the 60's without changing a thing. I had a sweet honey flavored one called Royal Pet.

ReviewNizaemon was sadly not as clean as I wanted it to be, especially the locker room. The building is a bit chaotic. Starting at the parking lot ending in the rotenburo everything seems to be built in strange angles or shapes. Nothing here was straight forward. The baths were fine though and quite refreshing, I would not mind going back if given the chance. There is also not much in terms of competition for supersentos in this part of Kyoto. This place reminded me of Nadeshiko no Yu. It was a bit dreary on the inside and seemed very health orientated. The other bathers who chatted with me in the rotenburo were really kind and funny.Good luck getting here even with a car! It is on a very busy Kyoto street Route 9 - San’in Road) in a hilly section. If coming by bus you can take #29 from Shijyo-Karasuma, #6 from Hankyu Katsura and #73 or #33 from Kyoto station. More information is available on their website.

Review: Kyoto sento are a thing. Well, Kyoto is a thing. Especially if you are in the core of the city when Kyoto becomes even more Kyoto. This sento just down the alley from the major Gion access point of Nijyō station making it right in the core of the core. That said, this place was pretty normal. Now I've been in small sento but this one might be the smallest one yet but also, and fascinatingly, one well equipped with all the baths. There is shallow, deep, bubbles, jets, treated, and cold in 3 tubs. Now each of these tubs could fit two people OK and three in a pinch it’s that small. The dry sauna which I peeked my head into could seat, maybe 4 people but I wouldn't enjoy that. Even the changing room has space saving measures with the only toilet (Japanese style) located in the entryway before you enter the sento proper. Interesting place, especially for sento people, but if you visit try to go during the off-peak times as this place is small! Visit Date: August 2021

While the spring water was trucked in from its related supersento in Arashiyama the quality was not bad. They didn't hide this fact, but they didn't really advertise it either. Bummer.
