Review: Akita only has one sento near the station, but it was closing way too early for me to get there in time. So, I did a 30~40-minute walk from my station area hotel to Komachi. This is a huge kenko land type complex with a hotel, 24-hour gym, ganbanyoku, and restaurant. While they had natural onsen in the name, I was ready to have a few tubs with some bath salts. However, I was happily surprised to find that this was not the case! What an amazing spring here. Dark, opaque water that seemed black. I was not sure if that was the tiles or how the water had affected the tiles. Either way it was cool. Outside in the tub baths they also have a warm version of the spring. Worth the walk from the station! (Or, if you are less crazy, get a cab or drive there like a normal person.) Besides the hot spring, there are some decent jets, normal sauna, small cold water and an above average steam bath. The “super-strong” jet bath was disappointingly weak. Also, this place had no kakari basin. Odd.
