Review: Mie might be the best prefecture for retro sento. Kasuga Onsen is a beautiful old building with another shelter like roof built over it. Quite a weird sight and not sure why. Inside the changing room is cluttered with posters and knickknacks. The grandmother working the bandai happily chatted with me and with the regulars as we changed. While this is a smaller, older sento there are a few jets here plush a deep and shallow main bath. There is also a very weak sauna that has hinoki cedar planks in it to fill it with that lovely smell. The tap water bath was only mildly cold but happy to have it. Tile work here is old and beautiful with a unique object (I don’t know how to explain it) capping off the main bath filling fountain. On the back wall is a tile painting of Mt Fuji behind a waterfall. Very local place but I felt accepted if only as a curiosity. Visit Date: September 2021

They might reopen in the future after COVID. Staff at the tourist information office in front of the station only knew that they were currently closed at the current time.

ReviewHyotan-Yu is a very basic but welcoming and cozy little sento about 7 ~ 10 minutes from Matsusaka station. It is the easiest to access sento near the station according to my searching and the tourist information staff. The baths and building was well maintained and clean. What really stood out here was the kind man working the bandai and the customers who all took an interest in me and were very pleasant. We had a little chat about where I should eat dinner and I ended very happy with their recommendation.Good place to go if you are staying in any of the business hotels near the station or on a stop over between trains.
