If you have to put furigana on your website for the NAME OF YOUR OWN ESTABLISHMENT no one can talk about it. -Hey lets go to that new onsen in Sanda. -What’s it called? -No clue, it's the one by the outlet mall. -Oh, that one. I mean how do you search for it? I used “三田 スーパー銭湯” in Google and a sento review site for this place came up first. It was not this place’s original site. So much fail. Down to the review, the place with the hard name is pretty nice. It has that new ascetic that has been popular in recently built supersento. This one was opened in 2015. Lots of that fine grained concrete lining the baths and also some smooth concrete. There is a big emphasis on the outdoor area—but watch for snakes. No, seriously, watch for snakes. There are signs in the parking lot. The spring water is above average, and I do like the selection of baths. The bathing area is quite small so it can get crowded quickly. Especially with the location being right there near the Aeon Mall and the outlet mall I can see many a family of weekend drivers heading to Sanda for shopping then a bath on the way home. So, overall this place I can’t remember the name of is a good place, but just go here on a weekday if you can. Same with the nearby malls! Oh and I call this place Sanda even though it's technically in Kobe, but it's more so in Sanda than Kobe. Locals know what I mean.

I am annoyed I didn't come here earlier! The spring is outstanding and they have a straight spring water bath also. Great for swapping between the warm spring water, cold water and hot sauna. The outdoor area is very open and has a great view--especially at night. Show your JAF card for a free towel.

Filled to the brim with tourists. Good location if you are coming off the hill from hiking Mt Rokko. If you can wait and get out of Arima for someplace, anyplace else, I would recommend that. This is a hot spring Disneyland for the tourists. The water is not even that good. Hard pass.

Kanoko Onsen

Japanese Name: 鹿の子温泉Prefecture: HyogoCity: Kobe - KitaAddress: 兵庫県神戸市北区長尾町宅原1611Type: Supersento w/ natural hot springPrice: ¥600Holiday: NoneHours: 9:00-25:00ReviewWhen I use to live in Sanda, Kanoko was the closest onsen to my apartment. It would take me 15 minutes or so to ride there on my bike, so I'd often go there before or after work. I went here 2 or 3 times a month. I do miss riding my bike here through the rice fields to enjoy this wonderful place.
The sento is different on each side, but both have the same basic layout. The bath on the left side of the front desk has a nicer rotenburo and a salt sauna. The bath on the left, my favorite, has a very strong jet bath and a extra hot sauna. Although small, Kanoko offers well designed baths that get better the more you go. Heated spring water fills the baths here. It's not the best onsen, but it feels extra hot and is also is mildly radioactive.
I go here for the baths, atmosphere, and the super hot sauna--not the water so much. As a daily onsen, Kanoko doesn't get boring. Kanoko has free body soap and shampoo, and a very good point card system with many discounted or double point nights to take advantage of. For a while there I rarely paid the full ¥600 price. Kanoko Onsen has a sister sento, Karato Onsen, which is one of my wife's favorite spas and has a very similar feel, but much bigger.
March 2020 Update: First time back here in awhile. I am not sure if Kanoko is still using well water in the baths or not. There were not any signs that I saw with the spring quality information, but I was not really looking for them. I was in the dry sauna (right) side this time and forgot how much I enjoyed this place. The cold water bath here is lovely after the really hot sauna they have. We saw a fox in the fields next to the parking lot when we drove in also. Such great luck!

Karato no Yu

It is a very good generic example of what a supersento is.I love the rocky shallow spring water filled rotenburo. Overall, the entire bathhouse is one of the best designed and laid out supersento that I've been to. It has everything a good supersento should. I enjoy the dry sauna the most, but the salt one is clean and comfortable too. The two sides are different and change daily. Outside there's some equipment for stretching too.Given that it's across the bridge from the train station, has a good selection of baths, and the high quality of the spring water Karato no Yu is a great introduction to supersento for a first timer.
Sadly Karato has seen better days. It is looking more and more worn each time I go. I also had an issue with the staff monitoring the behavior of the customers--email me if you need to know. That said, there are toys in the baths for kids and it's a fun place so I can still recommend going.

The better of the two, especially if you like your bath extra hot and enjoy opaque brown water. The spring here is one of those that is 100% identifiable as a hot spring before getting in. You can smell it, see it and feel the heat. Great for a cold, cold day in winter but almost too hot for me during the summer. The massive line of tourists waiting to go in along with the crowds make this place a no-go for me. However, if you are an onsen person you got to try this one at least once. Like Dogo Onsen, it is just too famous. But, just once. Or twice.

I once got a bowl of noodles with some steel wool in them which totally turned me of to the restaurant here. The baths are, in general, fine but my last few times there they smelt and didn't look as clean as I remember them being. Also the drains for the indoor bath make an obnoxious sucking sound that make relaxing quite hard and the entire place way too noisy. Other places have the same sucking sound, but it seems more annoying here. The outdoor hot spring bath is filled with this a wonderful hot spring that's opaque brown and mineral rich. Quite a good hot spring and it's very popular. I also enjoy the sauna here. Sadly the bad experiences I've had here years ago mean that I won't be going back anytime soon.

Review:It is a hotel, mini-theme park, garden, restaurant, BBQ area, hotel and hot spring up in the mountains above Kobe. You can reach here without a car-I guess. Given the location I expected a so-so spring that was barely noticeable. What I got was a rich brown Arima quality meaty spring-only in the outdoor bath. The spring is great, the bath design is hard bubble era and the location is inconvenient. Welcome to Kobe!
March 2020 Update: This is really a hidden gem among the baths in Kobe. It is a beautiful large hotel bath with a sauna, various jets and the outdoor natural hot spring bath. The night we went it was practically empty. For a few minutes, I had the entire indoor area to myself. It really depends on how busy the hotel is.

Review: This hot spring facility in the large Shiawase no Mura Kobe city recreation area is called Jungle Onsen for a good reason, I have never seen a bath with this many live plants everywhere. Municipal feel somewhat and large stoic baths but overall wonderful. The spring is a cold radioactive one similar to Nadeshiko. Good feel on the skin and very refreshing, especially when combined with all the plants. Dry and steam sauna here, the latter I very much enjoyed. No outdoor baths but there is an outdoor seating area. This complex does a lot of work with various disabled people in the city and one of my former students even works here doing physical therapy. Make sure to check out the hot spring mister walkway. That was pretty unique. Suzuran no Yu

The design has an emphasis on stone with two distinct bathing areas, one using mostly dark black stone, the other with a lighter sand stone motif. The men's and women's bath change periodically between the two. Both sides have a large gorgeously designed outdoor area with little paths, lots of natural plants and, of course, baths. It's more like being in a garden with baths than being in a bath that has a garden.I often recommend this place to people wanting to have their first super sento experience, or for someone who wants a more upscale, quiet place. I find that Suzuran no Yu can be quite crowded on holidays and weekends making the experience much less relaxing, so it is best to avoid those days if possible. Also, it's location makes it quite hard to get to without a car.
