ReviewUp in the hills above Suma is this grand Korean themed supersento (hence the katakana name). Getting there was a bit hard, but the experience is well worth the trip. The style is very modern with clean, smooth black stone and geometric shapes throughout the interior. The bathing area seemed a bit dark, but in a relaxing way. A relaxing, refreshing atmosphere is created by the sound of running water, abundant plants, and large well designed baths.Inside the central bath is carbonated well water. It's like the baths at Nada Onsen, but hotter and with smaller bubbles. Imagine bathing in hot Gerolsteiner. There is also a salt sauna which features different salts and fragrances depending on the day. The smell of the sauna was great, as was the salt, it was thicker and crunchier than the normal salt in these kind of saunas. Outside they have a "micronano bubble" bath which was opaque due to the millions of little bubbles in the water, sadly I couldn't feel the difference between that and the normal bath. There's also a large hot spring water bath outside with a few smaller baths around it.Overall I feel this supersento was very well laid out but there were a few strange things. Going from the inside to outside baths you have to go through the changing room. The plastic boards around the tub baths outside warped under my weight. Sadly, and my last complaint, there weren't any clear windows to see the great landscape from the baths. These small gripes aside, it's a great bath. You can catch a free shuttle bus to Chimujiruban from Myodani (名谷) and Myohoji (妙法寺) on the Kobe Subway. That would be the easiest way to get there without a car. The Kobe City bus also passes by Chimujirban. Instructions are on their website in Japanese. Driving in this area of Kobe can be a pain so be careful if you arrive by car.

Hana no Yu

Japanese Name: 華の湯Prefecture: HyogoCity: Kobe - SumaAddress: 兵庫県神戸市須磨区妙法寺藪中の中1248−14Access: 30min walk from Shintetsu MaruyamaType: SupersentoWebpage: http://kobe-hananoyu.com/Price: ¥450 (sauna is extra)Holiday: NoneHours: 10:00-25:00 (Weekends Holidays 6:00-25:00)
ReviewHana no Yu has a strong "bathing for health" feel. Maybe because I went there in the afternoon, the bath was filled with seniors. The hot spring here is a radon spring which is popular among those bathing to prevent or recover from disease. The baths are large and there's a wide open rotenburo with a very big bath. For the price it's a great bathing experience. Despite it's inconvenient location it's worth figuring out where this one is. If I lived in the neighborhood it would be my local bathing spot.
Update September 2018: Went here with another family after a group hike. I can reconfirm that the cost performance here is outstanding. Good place to take children also.
Update Summer 2021: They have done a major remodel here since my last visit. Baths are still the same and fed with the above average, smooth feeling radon spring. However, the entrance, hall and changing rooms have been totally redone. Much nicer than before. Love the new sign in the entrance! There is a place to fill your bottles with the radon spring water now. Daily recommended amount is 500ml.
