ReviewMiyoban Onsen is located about 5 to 10 minutes behind Kagoshima-chuo station. Don't let the beat down state of the building deter you from trying out this amazing bath. The place is a bit worse for wear, but that's part of the charm. The very hot spring water feels amazing and the shallow long bath is just beautiful. A unique bath in a town full of unique baths. The upstairs family bath is a steal compared to the other family baths in the city. The bath was a small square cube built into the floor, but the concrete material was the best of the three that I've tried in the city. Besides the bath there was a rest room with a free to use air conditioner and a large flat screen TV. The cheap purple chair did make it look a bit like a brothel however.Family bath 70 minutes: ¥1,450

ReviewThe cleanest and most modern of the natural hot spring sento near Kagoshima-chuo station. Nishida felt the most like a sento from Kansai with a selection of baths and familiar layout. The water is different the Miyoban's only a 10 minute walk away. The family baths at Nishida are new looking and lined with marble tile. The bath is rectangular and quite deep. I could layout in it with room to spare. Our room had baby bath toys too. No TV in the room and the air conditioner was coin operated.

ReviewThere is a great view of the Kagoshima bay and the city in the distance from this day bath connected to a tourist hotel on Sakurajima. The bath is definitely natural spring water with a reddish buildup all around the tubs. The layout of the baths is not bad at all, but it is sad that nothing really works well. Neither of the waterfall baths worked. The lobby and waiting room was too large and empty feeling. A tourist hotel in Soviet era Russia must have looked like this. As far as things to do on Sakurajima this is one of the least interesting. I took my daughter into the bath after swimming in the ocean nearby. The beach is free and very fun. Volcanic rocks float around you in the sea water. Nearby showers are free also. You'll need to change out of your bathing suit before heading into the onsen.There is a coupon for the bath attached to the discount bus pass available at the ferry terminal and tourist information desks around Kagoshima city.

The mixed bathing semi-natural rotenburo came out along the rocky shore of Sakurajima in a Shinto shrine. Guests were required to wear long white yukata as they bathed in the water. Above the rotenburo was a basic gender separated bathing room with a very small changing room for the day use guests.
