Review:Akino no Yu is a superb example of a municipal community center with a bath. The surrounding park, restaurant, gift store all look outstanding but I was there for the water. It was picked as 2nd in Nara for the 2018 Nifty Onsen rankings. The water is clear and absolutely slippery. Extremely soft on the skin thanks to the 9.6ph. There are two baths that appear to be swapped regularly with a pool area in the center. The pool is included in the entrance price. I did not see bathing suits for rent so make sure to bring your own. The pool is small but enjoyable with what felt like diluted spring water which felt great after a long soak. The mild temperature makes it ideal for just floating around. My wife and I got to splash around in the pool with my daughter for an hour or so the night we went. No one was in the pool that late and we had it all to ourselves. The bath I was in had a lovely main bath built from Nara grown cypress. The medical bath also used a locally grown herb this village has been known for since the year 611. It smelled great and felt just as good. Outdoors the bath was built with some of the biggest rocks I have seen used anywhere. Throughout the bath hidden in the grout holding the rocks together colorful marbles have been placed. Not sure why, but I know young children would love hunting for all of them while enjoying the water. The other side had two smaller outdoor baths and a great indoor electric bath to try. Both sides are different enough to make going back twice worth it. I had come here once before for hiking but was not able to use the bath due to time constraints. The mountains above the bath here are covered in a dense, dense forest. On the rainy afternoon that I visited, the mountains were beautiful and dark as night under the canopy of the trees. Uda is an amazing city and I hope you can get the chance to venture out here to enjoy nature, the great hiking courses and this lovely hot spring. There is a road station where the bus lets you off with a small vegetable market and local goods. It is highly recommended. I got a 100 yen off coupon from the staff there. They also have a free foot bath filled with spring water. Access notes: Nara Kotsu Bus from Haibara Station on the Kintetsu Nagoya Line. Bus runs at least hourly during the weekends and more often during weekdays. Take the bus to Ouda to the last stop, Ouda.
