Review: Some places just kind of sneak up on you. I thought I had visited everyplace near Umeda but then you find another bath that did not show up on the Google Maps search—a happy discovery indeed. Actually, this might be the best sento in walking distance from Umeda. It is in a cavernous building with high ceiling the likes I have not experienced before. That gives this sento an open airy feeling which pleasantly juxtaposes with the tight urban environment outside. The sauna here is the first thing one might notice hanging from the ceiling in the top side corner of the space with a circular staircase leading up to it. It looks like something a person would build in Minecraft. Below the sauna is a large cold-water bath that is filled with a waterfall flowing from the wall. Across from the cold-water bath and along the dividing wall is another rocky waterfall filling a very shallow bath. That then flows into and fills the main hot baths. There's a circular bath with hot and cold sides which at first glance appears to be a kakari basin but the sign says that you are supposed to walk around in circles in the calf deep water. I did not try it however second guessing my Japanese reading skills and hoping that one of the locals would use it so I could mimic them. Good electric baths here too! Interesting place overall. Worth keeping in mind if you are in Umeda and looking for a soak. Visit Date: July 2021

Review:One of the two major old-school capsule hotel / overnight saunas in Umeda. For baths this one has an outdoor bath that is made of a porous type of ceramic that lets air bubbles squeeze up from the bottom. Very nice. There is also a selection of jet baths and a good main indoor bath made from marble. The selection of different saunas at different temperatures really make this place what it is. There is even the elusive cold sauna here. There are two levels of capsule rooms. I chose the old ones and found them to be old but fine. I sleep like a baby in these things. Figuring your way around these huge multistory complexes at 4am after having a few is the hardest part of the experience... well that and the very skinny lockers they use. The staff was friendly and kind. You can also just stay overnight for cheaper in the bathing and lounging area if you do not need the privacy of a capsule.Capsule hotels and saunas like this are a very Japanese thing and something to be enjoyed, but please try to be respectful to the other guests if you do try this out.

ReviewA great little secret for a night out in Umeda. The most convenient and affordable bathing facility in walking distance from Umeda.Nakazaki-cho station on the Tanimachi line is actually closer, but by the time you change trains you could have walked there directly from Umeda.

Kobai Onsen

Japanese Name: 紅梅温泉Prefecture: OsakaCity: Osaka - KitaAddress: 大阪市北区天神橋3-1-25Access: Minami Morimachi Station / 南森町駅Type: SentoWebpage: https://twitter.com/koubaionsenPrice: Osaka Prefecture Public Bathhouse Association price or cheaper (sauna, if available, may be extra)Holiday: Saturday & 3rd SundaysHours: 14:30-24:00
ReviewKobai Onsen (I hope I read that right) is a basic Osaka style sento south of Tenma Station. Nice selection of baths but nothing outside. Watch out for the unsigned electric bath that is in the herbal bath. You cannot see the electricity emitting pads because of the opaque brown water. Great tile work throughout the bath even if it has seen better days. Still it was very clean when I went. I enjoyed my time here and would go back if the chance arises.

Naniwa no Yu

Japanese Name: なにわの湯Prefecture: OsakaCity: Osaka - KitaAddress: 大阪府大阪市北区長柄西1-7-31Address: Tenjinbashisuji Rokuchome Station / 天神橋六丁目駅Type: Supersento w/ natural hot springWebpage: http://www.naniwanoyu.com/Price: ¥800Holiday: NoneHours: 10:00-25:00 (Weekends Holidays 8:00-25:00)
ReviewThis supersento located on the 7th floor above a pachinko parlor is a wonderful example of what a good supersento should be. The large rotenburo has a great view of the sky and the planes flying into Itami Airport. Even in the winter sitting in the tub baths looking up into the sky makes you feel like you're in someplace more tropical. The outdoor baths are rather heavily chlorinated, but I enjoy that smell.Great saunas here. Strong and clean. The interior baths are crystal clear, big, and inviting. This is definitely a "beautiful skin" bath. Your skin will feel smooth and soft to the touch. The gensen bath is about 35 degrees. Great for chilling out after heating up in the hot baths. Being a gensen bath the carbonation is still in the water and you'll be covered in bubbles if you sit in there long enough.Close enough to Umeda to make it convenient, Naniwa is an ideal supersento experience.

Rakutenchi Onsen

Japanese Name: 楽天地温泉Prefecture: OsakaCity: Osaka - KitaAddress: 大阪府大阪市北区池田町7-12Access: Tennma Station / 天満駅Type: SentoWebpage: Price: Osaka Prefecture Public Bathhouse Association price or cheaper (sauna, if available, may be extra)Holiday: ThursdayHours: 14:00-25:30
ReviewRakutenchi is a small very busy local sento in a crowded Osaka neighborhood. The place was full of locals who all seemed to know each other as they chatted their way around the baths. The water was softened, and was piping hot in the main baths. The cold bath felt fresh. The small rotenburo filled with "Magma Onsen" treated water was small but nice. There's no view of the sky from the rotenburo as there's a panel blocking the way. The sauna looked small but clean and welcoming, no TV.This is a good classic sento in a great location and one worth checking out, but this might not be the best sento for a first timer.Magma Onsen is a common type of bath salt that is added to normal water just like you might do at home. It's probably the 2nd or 3rd most popular judging by how often I've seen it. The salts turn the water a reddish hue and has a mild fragrance to it.

Shusse Onsen

Japanese Name: 出世温泉Prefecture: OsakaCity: Osaka - KitaAddress: 大阪府大阪市北区大淀中5-2-11Access: Fukushima Station / 福島駅Type: SentoWebpage: http://osaka268.visithp.com/kita/furoya/9/9.htmlPrice: Osaka Prefecture Public Bathhouse Association price or cheaper (sauna, if available, may be extra)Holiday: MondayHours: 15:00-24:00
ReviewA bright, happy, big and clean sento. Perfect in almost every way. The only bad thing is the very noisy sucking sound coming from the waterfall bath in the back. A somewhat unique layout with the cold water bath in the front. The main deep bath is made with large slabs of granite that has the smoothness that only comes after years of use. In the doughnut hole rotenburo there is a tile painting of a sea and island scene that had a very early 80's California style to it which I found very attractive. That rotenburo is the best point of this bath. The view of the sky is only up, but there's a big enough opening to feel the air. Separating the rotenburo from the main bathing area are tall windows that make it feel much wider. Shusse Onsen is locally known for being the bathhouse that one of the members of the Non-Style comedy group often went to a child. If you come with your child there is a small, but fun looking park, right in front of the sento to enjoy.

Tenroku Onsen

Review: This is another option somewhat near Umeda to keep in mind. It is very busy, and you can see the years of use here. That said, it's clean enough. Small, but there is a great selection of baths and fun places to sit. Good electric and cold-water baths. The outdoor bath is not going to win any prizes, but I was happy to have it.

Umeda Sauna New Japan

Japanese Name: 梅田サウナニュージャパンPrefecture: OsakaCity: Osaka - KitaAddress: 大阪府大阪市北区堂山町9−5Access: Umeda Station / 梅田駅Type: Capsule HotelWebpage: http://www.umedasauna-newjapan.jp/Price: from ¥1300 (1 hour)Holiday: NoneHours: 24 hours
ReviewClaims to be the first capsule hotel in the world. Could be true. Great big pool to swim around in on the first floor plus a HUGE sauna. On the second floor is a more typical bathing experience. On occasion a hidden rooftop outdoor bathing area is open. Great if you are stranded in Osaka after the last train has left, you need to spend a night away from it all, or you are just traveling through. If you just stop in for the 50 minute quick bath plan it is also pretty good as there is not much in terms of a normal sento in the neighborhood.

*Closed* Sakae Onsen

Japanese Name: 栄温泉Prefecture: OsakaCity: Osaka - KitaAddress: 大阪府大阪市北区天神橋6丁目5−32Type: Sento
Review*Closed* A simple older sento in need of repairs but not dirty. The sauna had a bit of an odor and I didn't go in. The tile work has some nice flower designs. I liked the large stones set into the floor in a grid pattern with ceramic tile gutters. The changing room seems rooted in the day it was covered with a large mirror along the dividing wall.Staff and customers seemed nice enough but indifferent. The bath had to large metal poles bisecting it. They were great to lean on, stretch on and for doing water pushups.
It is now a parking lot. :P

*Closed* Tokiwa-Yu

Japanese Name: 常盤湯Prefecture: OsakaCity: Osaka - KitaAddress: 大阪府大阪市北区黒崎町9-18Type: Sento
Review*Closed* Tokiwa-Yu is a compact two story bathhouse. The second level is at the top of a steep staircase-some of the steepest stairs I’ve encountered. Overall it’s a good use of space in this smallish bathing area. Nice clean changing room and front with lots of ashtrays.Sadly I found the water in the cold and salt water baths to be a bit murky looking. The other baths were ok, however. Tokiwa-Yu is a good backup if Hamura Onsen closer to Umeda is closed and you’re in the neighborhood.I got a few strange looks here. It doesn't seem like many foreigners show up in this neighborhood. Something to be aware of.
