Only sento left in Shijonawate city I think. Went here after a hike with the Mimichi. She liked it but was too tired from the hike to enjoy it totally. The entrance here is tight on a skinny, well used road leading from the station, but once you get inside it is a different story. This sento is huge. The main bath is divided into 3 sections and held in with that lovely thick dark gray stone. The floor is also made of large stone slabs with tiles acting as the drain between them. Along the back wall is a weak steam bath, cold water, electric and a medicated bath. Interesting medicated bath with a type of bath salt advertised which I had never seen before and cannot find on the internet. It felt good, had a slight jasmine smell and green color to it. Make sure to check out the small koi ponds from the changing room. Highly recommended.

Nawate no Sato Onsen

ReviewI had low expectations for this supersento. The pictures I saw online looked decent but they didn't excite me. I was totally mistaken. Yes, Nawate no Sato is on one of Osaka's least beautiful streets. There’s a three wheel motorcycle for rent out front. The parking lot has a car wash in it. Next door there’s a factory and an empty lot. To be honest, It looks junky. The sento building itself is clean and well maintained, It’s not the most ideal locations for a supersento. That said once you get inside it’s amazing. Yea the lobby restaurant area is generic. It’s the baths and the other customers that make this place great. I’ve never seen such polite and friendly people in a supersento. The baths are all labeled if they use the hot spring water and additionally labeled if it’s heated or not. Temperatures for most of the baths is also posted. This is a simple courtesy that most supersento do not offer. The selection of baths is amazing for the small space. The amazing silk bath is filled with unheated spring water then carbonated. The water is opaque white and feels great. My 2 year old daughter didn’t want to get out. I can tell a bath is good on my daughter’s reaction to the water. She was delighted. Smiling, talking, playing in the water.Outside there is a large rock lined rotenburo. The bottom is lined with flat cut stone that has the texture of very, very fine sandpaper. Just perfect. There also is a smaller warm hot spring bath and two tubs with straight from the well gensen. Those two baths were too cold the winter night we came but I can imagine they are quite busy once the weather heats up.This is a good bath, but it’s one best visited in the summer when it’s hot because of it’s selection of cool and warm baths. They also have the elusive cold sauna. This one was unlike any other I have seen to this point. It’s all frosted in like the cooler box in an office refrigerator. The normal sauna seemed a bit small. There are foam mats for the sauna outside the door that are kept in an automatic washing rack and the customers actually used it correctly. Even getting out of the sauna everyone rinsed off before getting into the cold bath--at least while I was paying attention.Thinking about it, the only thing that I can say was bad about Nawate no Sato is that the men’s restrooms were stinky.Three family baths are available. ¥2,500 for 1 hour for 3 people. An extra ¥500 is charged for additional children.Nawate no Sato is very highly recommended if you can get there. I went by car and doubt walking to this sento is an option unless you really want to hike it. They do have a free shuttle bus to the stations listed above. Check their website for the timetable.I can’t wait to go back in the summer.
