For hot spring people the sulphur pools are the key point here. They say they can get to 42℃ but I never felt that they got over 40℃. Still the spring was great and worth the drive if you have not been in the water for a while. The pool area is like Riso in Nishinomiya with various things to enjoy. An extra pass is needed for the water slides ($10,00) and the lockers were paid. Group discounts, private baths and saunas are also on offer. There is a Japanese influenced indoor pool with showers to wash off in. I was quite happy to see the common Japanese style bathing set up when here. The springs do attract biting flies so some repellent is recommended. It is a long drive from Christchurch with not much in terms of gasoline stations or food options along the way. Winter driving can be hazardous and roads can close quickly so be prepared. I hope to return here sometime in the future as it looks like the facilities have been repaired since my visit in 2014.

Review:City run pool and fitness facility with a dry sauna, steam sauna and hot pool. The hot pool was not as hot as I would have liked it but it is a good option for someone looking for a soak in the city. There is kids water play pool with a lazy river and water slide (additional fee) also.
